WHAT IS THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD?
The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events which students prepare for during the year. The events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills and science applications.

Chem Lab  Earth, Sea and Sky  Egg Bungie
Experimental Design  Mission Possible  Nature Quest

 Write It, Do It

Reach for the Stars; Practical Data Gathering; Mystery Construction; Say It Again
WHEN WILL THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD BE HELD?
The 1998-99 Region I Louisiana Science Olympiad will be held on Saturday, March 20, 1999.  We'll be leaving early (that means before 7 AM) and returning home when the awards ceremony is done (late afternoon).
WHERE WILL THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD BE HELD?
We are in Region I; that competition will take place on the campus of the University of New Orleans (UNO).
WHO WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD?
Both Division B (Jr. High) and Division C (Sr. High) will take place at the same place on the same day. Our division (C) will have a maximum of 25 different schools participating.
A high school team (Division C) may have a team of up to 15 students. The maximum number of seniors allowed on a team is 7; the rest must be juniors and sophomores. The coaches will decide on the make-up of the team.
WHY SHOULD WE PARTICIPATE IN THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD?
It is a challenge. This endeavor is designed to let those students who want to be the best to exercise their creative and intellectual "muscle."
If you are one of the 5 highest scoring teams (out of a possible 25 teams), you will be invited to participate in the State Olympiad on April 24, 1999, at Loyola and Tulane Universities in New Orleans. The winners of the state competition will be eligible to compete at the National Science Olympiad on May 14-15, 1999, at the University of Chicago and Chicago Field Museum, Chicago, IL.
