Home Research Newspapers

Terrebonne Parish is currently served by one daily newspaper, the Houma Daily Courier, which has been around since 1878. The early years of the paper are not available. Over the first few decades of its history, there are few surviving issues. Microfilm copies of the surviving issues can be found at the North Branch of the Terrebonne Parish Library. LSU's Newspaper Project and Nicholls University also have some copies. A few issues of other early Terrebonne newspapers are also available on microfilm.

Obituaries
An index of the obituaries in Houma newspapers (up to 1981) has been published by the Terrebonne Genealogical Society. If you go to the Lookups page, the compiler has volunteered to do lookups in the book. Other publications have covered indices of years since then.
The Courier's website has been posting obituaries online since 1999.  Using their search engine, you can look through their obitiuaries that have appeared online.
