     PHYSICS  PROJECTS
Egg Drop
This project will have the students build devices, made only of 2 liter bottles, to protect an egg when it is dropped from a specified height.
Students, in groups of 2, will construct an egg drop device using ONLY 2 liter bottles ... the bottles themselves, the caps, & the label. You may use more than one bottle if you wish. On the drop day, the teacher will supply you with one raw egg to be placed in the device. It will be dropped from the second floor. When it is retrieved, you'll need to bring it back to the classroom and remove the egg in the teacher's presence. Any sort of crack counts as a failure. If it survives, it will be repackaged and dropped again. If it survives 2 drops, it will then be dropped from the top of the stadium.

SCORING:
F = failing to do an acceptable project
D = the egg breaks after the first drop
C = the egg breaks after the second drop
B = the egg breaks after the third drop (stadium)
A = the egg survives all 3 drops

The 1st Drop Begins ...

Watch out for
the window!

Thacker/Bourg devised a 2-stage drop system,
whereby their device strategically hooked onto
the window to reduce the terminal velocity
... thereby minimizing the impact on the egg.
(Either that or they just lucked out.)

Egg # 8 is a survivor.
For the first time ever, every egg survived the drops.
